Tips to shop for the healthiest convenience foods

#1 Go Whole:

The first ingredient in packaged bread products should be “whole wheat” not “wheat flour.”

#2 Stay Pure:

Ideally, the only ingredients in frozen produce should be the fruit or vegetables, no added sauces.

#3 Hold the Salt:

Look for the “low in sodium” label, which means a product has 140 or fewer milligrams.

Question: (answer by leaving a comment)

1. What do you look for on labels?

Thanks for stopping by. There’s a great app you can get for your phone too it’s called Fooducate and it will compare different products by rating them on scale of healthiness. I LOVE IT! You just scan the bar code and it gives you all the information you need πŸ˜‰

I look for lack of refined sugars and whole grains, low sodium, lack of MSG, lower fat content. All that good stuff. I kind of walk through the grocery store with amazement at all the foods that I won’t eat. Like 75% of foods are not something that I would want to consume for various reasons. For me it mostly comes down to eating whole foods, plain and simple.
